Explanation of new PALS space and status of CS renovations. Temporary meeting locations for CS labs.

All freshman BIOL labs, if needed, will be moved to ST-208. This room currently only has 12 chairs. Jerry Barnes will need to arrange to have 12 additional chairs delivered there if the BIOL labs are not ready by Monday.

All GenChem labs will be held in ST-209. This room only has 16 chairs in it now so Jerry Barnes will need to arrange to have 8 additional chairs delivered there.

All Organic CHEM labs will be held in ST-220.

All upper division CHEM labs will be moved to ST-301

Ph.D. Program Reports: Cooperative program with College Station (Benson) and development of Harte capabilities (Tunnell).
Standard content for syllabi and discussion of "thoroughness and rigor" for graduate students.

Standard procedures for purchasing and travel. (Sylvia)

Main message: All travel must have paperwork filed through PALS; even if someone else is paying for it.

Update list-serves. Make sure your TA's get on the PALS list (Grady).

See current lists at end of this document. Grady will cull old address out.

Adherence to standardized curricula in multi-section classes.

Primary instructor for each class defines standard curricula which everyone teaching those sections must adhere to.

New class submissions. (Feri, Molecular Spectroscopy approved. Kirk's pre-existing class already approved. Grady will file appropriate paperwork on both.
Key distribution plan. None exists yet but some old CS keys still work?
Late breaking status on TA's. Last minute hires (Mark). We will begin to utilize advanced undergrads and adjuncts to cover some labs.
Assignments: HEF requests, travel requests, 2001-2002 Goals and Objectives by 10/1, Updated resume, Posting and observing office hours, updated vitas for both Sylvia's files and for the dean (Due at the S&T meeting Friday). Please send a hard copy and a Word file to Sylvia. A hard copy only for the dean.
Dr. Ferid Murad is at the UT Health Science Center in Houston and won the Nobel in Physiology and Medicine in 1998. We will sponsor joint talk with Del Mar hosting him. Also, Ocean Bowl 2002 is set for February 16, 2002. Suzanne Dilworth is coordinating.
Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness. Call for study committee. Patrick Larkin will chair. Members are: Bala, Eugene, Joanna, Kit, Lillian, Mark,
Faculty development opportunities. New faculty brown bag. New faculty mentoring ideas.
Status of 9/12 teaching loads and how it could work.

Admonition for everyone who is eligible to apply.

More Provost stuff:

"We are out of sync with other institutions our size when it comes to summertime credit hour production."

Overview of first Program Review Cycle (Grady) and schedule for 2001-2002: ESCI (Prouty), MARI (McKee).

Committee Status Reports and elections as needed:

Research Enhancement Committee, (Suzzette is our rep to

University-level committee)

Library Committee, Cabrera.

Promotion &Tenure, Prouty and Hickman (may need an election

here depending on what happens in Dean's office).

TA Selection Chair is currently Morvant. Dave Moury elected to

new term replacing him.

Goals an Objectives meetings must be completed by October 1^st. Pencil in appointments.
Regular PALS Meeting days and times. What's your pleasure for the Fall?

Second Friday of every month at 2 PM. Must be completed by 5 PM.

Greetings and welcome back.
New membership nominations.

Jennifer Prouty nominates Jeff Sasara for Associate membership. Approved.

David McKee nominates five individuals for Associate membership. He will distribute

one page bio's to the palsfacg list.

Grady will resend the most current graduate faculty guidelines.
